And the Box Office Champion this week is...

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – "He's Just Not That Into You," a comedy featuring Jennifer Aniston and Drew Barrymore, romanced the North American box office on Sunday, as overall ticket sales defied the recessionary gloom.
The new champ earned $27.5 million during the three days beginning on Friday, with women accounting for 80 percent of the audience, said its distributor, Warner Bros. Pictures.
The movie -- based on a book that was itself inspired by the TV show "Sex and the City" -- revolves around the lives and loves of various couples. Despite the A-list lineup -- which also included Ben Affleck and Scarlett Johannson -- critics largely disapproved.
Its success marks an early birthday present for former "Friends" star Aniston, who turns 40 on Wednesday and is still riding high with her recent box office champ "Marley & Me."
Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc, was confident the film would hold up well next weekend, when business will be boosted by Valentine's Day on Saturday.
Three other pictures opened in the top 10. The biggest disappointment was Steve Martin's "The Pink Panther 2," which came in at No. 4 with $12 million. The first film in Columbia Pictures' revived comedy franchise opened with $20 million in 2006 and ended up with $82 million. Despite the sequel's performance, Columbia's worldwide distribution president Rory Bruer said he "wouldn't bet against" a third film going into production.

Also new were Focus Features' stop-motion animated entry "Coraline" at No. 3 with $16.3 million and Summit Entertainment's sci-fi thriller "Push" at No. 6 with $10.2 million. Both did better than expected, and both feature 14-year-old actress Dakota Fanning.
Last weekend's No. 1 film, 20th Century Fox's Liam Neeson crime thriller "Taken," slipped to No. 2 with $20.3 million; its 10-day total rose to $53.4 million.
The top Oscar contenders, meanwhile, have largely stalled. The only exception was "Slumdog Millionaire," the favorite to take the best picture prize in two weeks. Fox Searchlight's Indian game-show drama has earned $77.4 million after 13 weeks, boosted by a $7.4 million weekend. It fell one place to No. 7.
No other Oscar contenders made the top 10. The leading nominee, Paramount Pictures' "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," with 13 mentions, has earned $120 million, and will struggle to match its reported $150 million budget.
As for the other best picture nominees, Focus Features' "Milk" has made $25.3 million; Universal Pictures' "Frost/Nixon," $15.6 million; and the Weinstein Co's "The Reader," $16.1 million.
But moviegoers are lining up for other movies as evidenced by overall ticket sales, which have risen for six out of the past seven weekends when compared with year-ago tallies. Year-to-date revenues are up 19 percent, said tracking firm Media By Numbers.
The year's top movie is also the most notable Oscar snub, Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino." Warner Bros.' urban drama has earned $120.3 million since opening in limited release in mid-December, and is on its way to $140 million, the studio said.

LONDON (Reuters) - A milkman who admitted he delivered cannabis as well as pints to elderly customers to ease their aches and pains, was spared jail Friday.

Robert Holding, 72, from Burnley, told police he supplied the drug to 17 customers after detectives raided his home and found nearly 6oz (167g) of cannabis in an egg crate in the van he used for deliveries.

"He said he sold the cannabis to existing customers because they were old and had aches and pains," said prosecutor Sarah Statham.

"He said he sold a 9oz (255g) bar about every three weeks and sold it for a relatively cheap value. He said that customers left him notes saying, for example, 'Can I have an ounce this week or can I have an eighth.'"

Holding, who admitted supplying and possession of the drug at a previous hearing, was given a 36-month prison sentence suspended for a year at Burnley Crown Court Friday, the Press Association reported.

Judge Beverley Lunt told him the sentence was "an act of mercy" because he visited his wife, who has Alzheimer's disease, every day in a care home.

"You were not some philanthropist helping out the elderly out of the good of your heart. You dealt drugs for profit in a calculated way. It was a business," the judge told him.

His lawyer Philip Holden said his client "wasn't making much of a profit" and that his oldest client was 92.

"Word had got out that he was a man who could supply cannabis to those of a certain age with aches and pains and he misguidedly believed he was providing a public service," he said.

After the verdict Holding insisted he had not made money from his drug dealing.

"They (the customers) enjoyed it, they saved a lot of money while I was doing it and I only did it for a short time," he said.

However Neil Standage, area crown prosecutor for East Lancashire, said there was no evidence that he was only supplying elderly people with painful ailments.

"This might make it sound like what he was doing was harmless. It wasn't," he said.

This would not happen if drugs were legalized!

The apology of Christian Bale.

The Diva...I mean actor Christian Bale issued an apology for the "misunderstanding" that happened on the set of "Terminator: Salvation".

He called in to Los Angeles' KROQ Friday morning and apologized on the Kevin & Bean show. “It’s been a miserable week for me." he declared.

"Listen, I know I have a pottymouth, everybody knows that now, but I understand this is live, so please don't worry, I will behave."

"The thing that I really want to stress is that I have no confusion whatsoever. I was out of order, beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk. I regret that and there is nobody that has heard that tape that it's hit harder by it than me. So I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable and I hope that is absolutely clear.”

“One thing that has really disturbed me throughout this, because I’m not familiar, I'm comfortable yet with this notion of being a movie star. I’m an actor and I’m don’t quite know how to handle the movie star thing. The thing that disturbs me so much is that I’ve heard a lot of people saying that I seem to think I’m better than anybody else."

"I'm embarrassed by it. I ask everybody to sit down and ask themselves, have they ever had a bad day and have they ever lost their temper and really regretted it immensely."

"Feel free to make fun of me at my expense; I deserve it completely."

Oh yes, Mr. Bale. We are having fun at you expense for being so stupid!

I have worked on movie sets before, with directors like Steven Spielberg (Amistad in 1997) and George Clooney (Man staring at goats, 2008) among others and professionalism is the norm. DP's go into sets to check the lighting. It's part of the job! No actor, in my experience has ever complained about this. On the contrary, they always take it in stride and joke and laugh about it.
Mr. Bale's reaction was exaggerated and in very poor taste. The DP was not unprofessional, Mr. Bale was!

And this is not a common occurrence with Mr. Bale. He has earned the nickname of "Tanty" because of the constant temper tantrums he throws on sets when things don't go his way.

Mr. Bale should be grateful that he has a job that pays millions of dollars to play "dress-up" and "pretend" emotions. In this bad economy, he has been blessed. Thinking that the world revolves around him, does not help your cause. Remember, those that you trample on your way up, will be waiting for you, on your way down!

Doctor jailed for taking a 50 cent bribe, 24 years ago!

Yup! Crime does not pay in India!

PATNA, India (Reuters) - An Indian court sentenced a 75-year-old doctor to jail for accepting half a dollar as a bribe nearly a quarter of a century ago, officials said Wednesday.

India's federal police caught Balgovind Prasad accepting 25 rupees (51 cents) from a sweeper in 1985 for issuing a fake medical certificate, police said.

The case dragged on for years and Prasad was convicted in 1992 and given a one-year jail term. He was freed as he appealed the sentence.

Tuesday, a higher court in India's eastern state of Bihar state reduced the one-year term to three months, saying the bribe amount was too small, but directed the police to take Prasad into custody as he was guilty of the crime.

"The case was also dragging and the bribe money was too small, so Prasad thought he would get a reprieve from the court," prosecution lawyer Vipin Kumar Sinha told reporters after the verdict. "But all the charges has been proved against him."

Indian justice is often delivered at a glacial pace and a case can drag for decades with endless hearings.

Man! It took 24 years to convict this guy! For 51 cents!!! It will probably take until 2100 to get to the guys of the Mumbai Massacre!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Thriller "Taken," starring Liam Neeson as a former spy who must rescue his daughter from modern-day slave traders, snatched the No. 1 spot at North American box offices over the weekend, according to studio estimates on Sunday.
"Taken" grabbed $24.6 million in just under 3,200 theaters, for an average of about $7,700 per theater, and it played to a mix of men and women, said a spokesman for its distributor, 20th Century Fox. Fox is a unit of News Corp..
With the media's spotlight on professional football's Super Bowl, overall weekend ticket sales of $103 million for the top 12 films were off 20 percent from the last weekend, and only slightly ahead of the same weekend last year, according to box office tracker Media by Numbers.
Still, January proved to be a record month in theaters with a total box office haul of more than $1 billion for the first time ever, said Media by Numbers president Paul Dergarabedian.
One big reason has been the surprise success of Columbia Pictures' comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop," which slipped to the No. 2 spot after two straight weeks at No. 1. The movie starring comic actor Kevin James took in $14 million over the weekend, boosting its three-week total to $83.4 million.
Columbia Pictures said "Paul Blart" was well on its way to passing the $100 million mark at box offices as it continues to play well to audiences looking for laughter. Columbia is a unit of Sony Corp's Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Landing in the No. 3 spot was the new supernatural thriller "The Uninvited" with $10.5 million. It was released by Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc..
The other fresh entry in theaters was romantic comedy "New In Town" starring Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick, Jr. But it failed to ignite much of a flame with movie fans, coming in at No. 8 with only $6.8 million. It was released by Lionsgate Entertainment.
Other notable movies were Paramount comedy "Hotel for Dogs," which finished in the fourth spot with $8.7 million, and Clint Eastwood's popular "Gran Torino," which was No. 5 with $8.6 million to push its cumulative total to $110.5 million.
Finally, Oscar hopeful "Slumdog Millionaire," whose director Danny Boyle won the best film award from the Directors Guild of America on Saturday night, added more than 200 theaters over the weekend and raked in $7.7 million to push its overall ticket sales above $67 million.
"Gran Torino" was released by Warner Bros., the studio wing of Time Warner Inc., and "Slumdog Millionaire" came from the Fox Searchlight division of News Corp..
