¿No mas balas al aire? Algunos ni les importo.

Haciendo caso omiso del llamado de la ciudadanía a no disparar durate la despedida del año, algunos irresponsables causaron heridos de bala en diferentes incidentes. Tambien se reporta el primer asesinato del año 2013. Aqui el parte de eventos hasta las 4:30 am, cortesía del Nuevo Día.

4:25 a.m. - Llega hombre con herida provocada por pirotecnia en el ojo derecho. El incidente ocurrió en Barceloneta.

3:50 a.m. - Padres de Karina Resto, quien fue herida de bala en Trujillo Alto, informan que la joven se encuentra estable y será dada de alta próximamente.

3:40 a.m. - Hombre llega en ambulancia a Centro Médico. Paramédicos indicaron preliminarmente que se cayó de un segundo piso. Según el paramédico Figueroa, el hombre tiene una herida en la cabeza que podría ser un impacto de bala. Esta versión no ha sido confirmada.

Los hechos ocurrieron en Toa Baja.

3:34 a.m. - Niño de 5 años llega Centro Médico en helicóptero desde Mayagüez. 

El agente Hernández de la comandancia de este municipio indicó que el menor fue atropellado. Perdió 5 dientes y tiene fractura craneal.

3:30 a.m. - Un menor llega al Centro Médico con una herida en la mano izquierda. El joven fue lastimado por pirotecnia conocida como "cherry bomb".

3:20 a.m. - Joven llega en un Toyota Corolla a la sala de emergencias. Aunque entró caminando, informan que resultó herido de bala en el barrio Valencia, en Hato Rey.

3:00 a.m. - Niño de 5 años llega Centro Médico en helicóptero desde Mayagüez.

2:10 a.m. - El agente Morales, de Radio Control, informa que en total, 5 personas han resultado heridas por balas perdidas. La víctima más reciente es de San Germán. Se encuentra en el Hospital Concepción.

1:41 a.m. - Policía ofrece varias versiones sobre hombre muerto la PR-823 en Toa Alta. La versión más reciente indica que el hombre fue asesinado. Tiene al menos un impacto de bala en el rostro. 

1:14 a.m. - Llega el tercer herido de bala perdida a Centro Médico. El incidente ocurrió en la PR-187, sector Ayala en Loíza. 

Según el agente Encarnación, el hombre, de 36 años, caminaba hacia su casa cuando sintió el impacto, por lo que fue llevado al CDT de Canóvanas donde confirmaron que se trataba de una herida de bala. Posteriormente lo transportaron al Centro Médico.

12:47 a.m. - Joven llega al hospital con vendaje en el rostro. Fue herido por pirotecnia conocida como "cherry bombs".

12:30 a.m. - Personal de Centro Médico informa que unidades de Rescate transportan al hospital a un hombre herido por una bala perdida en Barrio Obrero. 

12:30 a.m. - Una mujer, identificada como Karina Resto, llega al Centro Médico con una herida en la cabeza. El agente Blanco, del cuartel Trujillo Alto sur, informó que el incidente se investiga como una bala perdida. 

Los hechos ocurrieron en la cancha de Estancias del Camino, en Trujillo Alto. La mujer se encontraba celebrando con sus amistades y a la medianoche fue impactada por un proyectil. 

Su condición es estable. Informes preliminares indican que la bala solo rozó la parte posterior de la cabeza.

12:02 a.m. - Niño de 12 años llega en ambulancia acompañado por su madre. El menor sufrió quemaduras en el rostro tras ser impactado por pirotecnia conocida como "cohetitos". Estaba en casa de sus abuelos.

12:01 a.m. - Llega primera víctima de bala perdida al Centro Médico en ambulancia. El incidente se registró en Añasco.

Ya empezamos mal.

¿Monos en Punta Las Marias? Aparentemente, si.

En un caso sin precedentes, ya los monos han invadido hasta las casas en Santurce y Carolina.

¿Se imagina entrar a su baño y encontrarse cara a cara con un mono?

No, no es una escena de Jumanji. Un adolescente lo vivió el pasado domingo mientras se encontraba en su casa en la calle Emajagua, en la urbanización Punta Las Marías.

En medio del tremendo susto, el muchacho tiró la puerta y dejó encerrado al primate, lo que le hizo el trabajo más fácil a los expertos del Cuerpo de Vigilantes del Departamento de Recursos Naturales y Ambientales, quienes lo capturaron poco después.


El teniente Ángel Atienza, del Cuerpo de Vigilantes, contó que el mono hizo escante en el lujoso baño: se metió en el jacuzzi, sacó ropa del hamper y ensució todo el mármol. Sin embargo, todo apunta a que el animal era la mascota de alguien que vive por el lugar, pues no se asustó ni se amedrentó al verse rodeado de seres humanos.

“Parece que está acostumbrado a comer de la mano”, comentó el experto.

Según Atienza, no se sabe cómo el mono rhesus llegó al baño de la lujosa residencia, pero son muchas las posibilidades.

En días recientes, la comunidad El Chícharo, en Santurce, había reportado avistamientos de monos. Uno de estos pudo haberse movilizado desde esa comunidad por una de las calles que pasa por debajo del expreso Baldorioty de Castro hasta llegar a la comunidad costera en Punta Las Marías.

El primate posiblemente entró a la casa por la puerta principal. No hay posibilidad de que se colara por una ventana al baño, ya que queda en el interior de la residencia.


Al parecer, a los monos rhesus que andan por Puerto Rico les atraen los vecindarios lujosos. En febrero de este año, un mono rhesus, un poco más viejo que el capturado el domingo, dio tremendo dolor de cabeza al Cuerpo de Vigilantes.

El primate se apoderó del patio de una residencia de Altamira, en Guaynabo, y por su carácter bravucón logró que los dueños de la casa no salieran a disfrutar del jardín. Ese mono se comía todo lo que encontraba a su alcance, y mostró un paladar gourmet, pues ingería hasta las aromáticas gardenias.

Tanto en el caso de Punta Las Marías así como en Altamira, ambos primates fueron llevados al Centro de Confinamiento de Especies, en el barrio Cambalache, en Arecibo.

Los monos que son capturados en la Isla son enviados a zoológicos en Estados Unidos.

Estos animales, sumamente inteligentes, se han convertido en un reto para ser manejados.

Desde principios de año, una decena de macacos viven en el sector Melilla, del barrio Almácigo Alto, en Yauco. Los vecinos los ven usualmente a las 6:00 de la mañana y a las 6:00 de la tarde.

Allí, los monos corren rápidamente por los terrenos y llegan hasta el río para alborotar a gallinas y cabros que residen en el lugar.

Según se informó, el Cuerpo de Vigilantes llegará hoy a la comunidad a poner jaulas con cámaras para capturarlos.

Pero esto puede ser que les resulte más difícil de lo esperado. En el caso del mono de Altamira, cariñosamente conocido como “Guaynabito”, este lograba alcanzar la fruta dentro de la jaula extendiendo el brazo, sin ser capturado. Finalmente, fue un trozo de papaya lo que logró distraerlo lo suficiente para caer en la trampa y así terminar con sus travesuras.

¡Nos chavamos ahora! Tras la criminalidad, los altos precios, los legisladrones y los huracanes, ahora hay que preocuparse por los monos.

The Sitting Dead Man.

In life his name was Carlos Cabrera. He used to live in the San José area of the San Juan Metroplex. He was a Gulf War Vet, that was loved and admired by his neighbors and family. He was killed last week, defending a boy from a couple of guys beating him with a baseball bat. He got hit in the head and died of his injuries. His last request was that his wake was in the favorite place in the area, the basketball court and in his favorite meditative position, with his favorite Salsa music blasting all around, no casket until the funeral, please.

So the family did just that. And another myth of Puerto Rican folklore has been created. The Sitting Dead Man. Following in the footsteps of other unusual wakes like "El Muerto Para'o" (The Standing Dead Man, article here) and "El Muerto en Motora" (Motorcycle Dead Guy, Article here.)

There was a Dead Guy on an Ambulance, but seriously, there's a lot of dead people on ambulances anyway.

From now on, Carlos Cabrera, known before as "Che Cabrera" (He was an ardent fan of Che Guevara) will be forever known as "El Muerto Senta'o" (The Sitting Dead Man)

¡El "famoso" video de Chovi!

Para lo que hayan sintonizado un poco tarde, aqui esta el video que esta causando sensación en Puerto Rico.

Raúl Gabriel Diaz Rodríguez de 17 años, conocido con Chovi, se dio una santa jumeta en Marzo de este año despues de una fiesta con sus compañeros de la clase graduanda. Tanto bebio que le dio pavor y panico, solo por pensar la reacción de su mamá cuando lo viera borracho.

En parte es refrescante ver que un joven todavia respete a sus padres.

Aquí tenemos un vídeo de You Tube. En el un Policía de la fuerza de Choque rompe el cristal de un conductor en la avenida Fernandez Juncos, frente al área sur de Capitolio. El conductor fue identificado como el Lcdo. Rafael Emmanuelli-Jiménez y el vehículo afectado como un Audi TT 2009.

Ayer cuando salí de la manifestación frente al Capitolio en la que la fuerza
de choque agredió sin piedad a los manifestantes un policía de esa unidad la
emprendió contra el automóvil en que viajábamos.

Mi hija de 16 años estaba filmando los policías desde el asiento trasero del
carro. Le señalé a los policías que no tenían su identificación visible y
uno de ellos me mentó la madre. Acto seguido y antes de que pudiera
contestar el agravio con un involuntario "hijoeputa" el último policía de la
línea la emprendió contra el carro con su macana y destrozó el cristal
trasero. Todos los vidrios cayeron sobre mi hija quien casi recibió el
impacto de la macana. Cuando intenté dar marcha atrás el policía sacó su
arma y apuntó a nuestro carro.

Salimos de la escena y llegamos a un garaje de gasolina en el que había una
patrulla. Le informamos el incidente y solicitamos que hiciera la querella.
El policía González, Placa 24949 que manejaba la patrulla con tablilla
GEO1786 se negó a tomar la querella. Luego llegó el Sargento Rodríguez,
Placa 8-19877 y me indicó que teníamos que acudir al cuartel más cercano
para dar la querella. Le informé que temía por mi seguridad y la de mi
familia ante el incidente de agresión policíaca ocurrido y también se negó a
presentar la querella.

La policía de Puerto Rico viola la ley impunemente, ocultando sus nombres en
sus uniformes para poder agredir injustificadamente y ante el señalamiento
de este hecho por un ciudadano, le destrozan el cristal de su carro y luego
el "Cuerpo llamado a velar por la ley y el orden" se niega a siquiera
iniciar un trámite investigativo.

Tiros en el Capitolio ayer.

Ayer hubo disparos cerca del Capitolio en San Juan, durante la manifestación y la molienda a palos consiguiente.

Lo que verán son dos vídeos amateurs que recojen el sonido de los disparos.

Después se supo que este oficial, el Teniente Primero Juan D.Vargas, adscrito al Cuartel de la Calle Loíza, desenfundo su arma de reglamento y disparo "al aire".

Irónicamente, el agente Fernando Rolón Sanyust, con la placa #20615, adscrito a la División de Operaciones Tácticas (DOT) de Bayamón, recibió una laceración en el antebrazo derecho, parecida a una herida de bala, siendo atendido en el Centro Médico.

Mi pregunta es; ¿Es coincidencia que un agente fuera herido por una bala, cuando nadie de los estudiantes andaba armado? ¿O fue "Friendly Fire"?

Comunicado sobre la situación política de Puerto Rico

Me hago eco de lo declarado aquí.

LA EXPLOSIVA SITUACIÓN POLÍTICA DE PUERTO RICO

Son las 5:00 de la tarde del día 30 de junio de 2010, grupos de estudiantes, profesores y ciudadanos pidieron entrada a la Casa de las Leyes y fueron golpeados y torturados por la Polícia, hay numerosos heridos, mientras se moviliza la Guardia Nacional hacia el Capitolio. Choques violentos se esparcen por toda la zona del Parlamento y las represiones continúan.

Un golpe de estado constitucional acaba de consolidarse en Puerto Rico.
Tras un año de que el actual gobierno del Partido Nuevo Progresista (PNP, partido que busca la anexión de Puerto Rico a los Estados Unidos), intentara y lograra exitosamente la toma de varias instituciones que sostienen el gobierno democrático de Puerto Rico, un ambiente de hostilidad seguido por temerarias acciones retadoras de la paz pública, han desembocado en acciones violentas y agresivas del actual gobierno, tanto contra los partidos de oposición, como del movimiento estudiantil organizado, los sindicatos, la prensa, así como de todos los sectores de la sociedad civil puertorriqueña.
Esta toma del control constitucional procede de la Rama Legislativa bajo la autoridad del Senador Lcdo. Thomas Rivera Schatz, apoyada por el gobierno central bajo el mando del Secretario de la Gobernación, el Lcdo. Marcos Rodríguez Ema, con el obvio propósito de tener a su disposición y sin disputa, el control de todos los organismos rectores judiciales, universitarios, económicos y civiles. Ante este panorama, el actual Gobernador, Lcdo. Luis Fortuño, funciona sin voluntad, sin opinión y sin presencia ni responsabilidad pública.
Con el control del Tribunal Supremo de Puerto Rico, la Junta de Síndicos de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, el pretendido control de los medios de comunicación, entre muchos otros, se atenta contra la genuina participación del pueblo puertorriqueño en todos los procesos democráticos protegidos por su Carta de Derechos.
Los incidentes comenzaron con el despido de más 20,000 empleados públicos con el pretexto de aliviar el gigantismo gubernamental y resolver el gravísimo déficit fiscal del país. Esta decisión ha provocado el caos económico, ha empeorado la prestación de servicios públicos y ha provocado la desesperanza en todas las familias puertorriqueñas. De la misma forma se instauró una grave persecución contra los institutos artísticos del país, estrangulando sus presupuestos y de esta manera evitar la propagación del arte como disidencia. Mientras el Gobierno favorecía con contratos de cantidades obscenas, a cientos de asesores, contratistas, y cabilderos asociados a su partido.
Continuaron los ataques con el nombramiento al Tribunal Supremo de cuatro Jueces afiliados y militantes al partido del poder logrando con ello la mayoría a favor del gobierno de todas las decisiones que por votación individual se hicieran en ese foro. Luego continuó con la eliminación y represión de la participación estudiantil en los procesos universitarios, la supresión de derechos de exención de matricula de atletas, artistas, entre otros, mientras obligó a los estudiantes de los 11 recintos universitarios del estado a declarar una Huelga que duró 60 días. Los estudiantes en Huelga lograron negociar a través de un tribunal de primera instancia, sin embargo, los referidos compromisos fueron invalidados por el Secretario de la Gobernación quien dijo que los acuerdos “no valen el papel en que están escritos”.
Este hecho precedió a la acción del gobierno central y del Senado de proponer un proyecto de Ley, aprobado en cuestión de horas, para aumentar cuatro miembros más a la Junta de Síndicos. Dichos miembros son incondicionales del partido en el poder. Los estudiantes universitarios de la universidad del estado, cuya vasta mayoría dependen de la beca de estudios federal, se enfrentan a una cuota anual recurrente de $800 dólares. Cuota que no pueden pagar y que se negarán a pagar obligados nuevamente a la consecuente Huelga. De esta manera, la administración central de la UPR arriesga la acreditación de la Universidad y podrá privatizar sus activos. En esta misma dirección, el Gobierno de Puerto Rico venderá los terrenos donde se ubica la zona del llamado “Karso” del Noroeste, que recoge un tercio de los abastos de agua de todo el país, para entregarlo a manos privadas que construirán un expreso de peaje sobre la referida zona, rica ecológicamente.
Pasando por alto muchos otros acontecimientos, el Presupuesto del país fue aprobado, junto con innumerables leyes que favorecen la privatización, la descolegiación profesional, así como la repartición de fondos públicos a manos privadas sin tomar en cuenta las necesarias y obligadas vistas públicas de participación ciudadana, y apagando los micrófonos de las bancas del Partido de Oposición de manera despótica.
Los incidentes lograron un punto climático cuando esta pasada semana, el FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation de los Estados Unidos) arresta por cargos de soborno, venta de influencias y otros a un senador del PNP, el senador Héctor Martínez, mano derecha del Senador Rivera Schatz. Una pugna pública salta a las noticias entre Rivera Schatz y este cuerpo federal castrense, en defensa de la supuesta inocencia del senador Martínez, quien ha sido asociado al narcotráfico y quien fuera grabado en medio de su acto de soborno. Como último de los muchos incidentes de violencia y temeridad del Presidente Senatorial, se censuró mediante la fuerza la entrada de los periodistas a las sesiones del Senado, privando al pueblo puertorriqueño de la discusión que se realizó sobre el presupuesto del país. Los incidentes llegaron a la violencia verbal y física entre senadores, y han elevado la indignación del país a un punto insostenible de ansiedad y rabia.
El Lcdo. Thomas Rivera Schatz ha tomado virtual control del país con sus actitudes tiránicas y fascistas, y no se descarta que desde sus mismas gradas se inicien esta semana procesos de persecución y violencia contra otros sectores del país, apoyados por el Secretario de la Gobernación de Puerto Rico.

Aún cuando en Puerto Rico no existen las condiciones para un levantamiento armado popular por la obvia desigualdad de las fuerzas en pugna, una revolución de afirmación cultural y estudiantil comienza a tomar las calles y a rescatar los espacios robados por los autores de este golpe.
Exhortamos a todos los medios de comunicación del mundo a que den noticia de la actual situación de la Nación Puertorriqueña y solicitamos por ende su completa solidaridad.

EXPLOSIVE POLITICAL SITUATION IN PUERTO RICO

It is 5:00 of the evening of June 30, 2010, groups of students, teachers and citizens asked for entry to the House of the Laws and they were struck and tortured by the Police, there are numerous injured people, while the National Guard is mobilized towards the Capitol Hill. Violent shocks scatter for the whole zone of the Parliament and the repressions continue.

A constitutional coup has just been established in Puerto Rico.
After a year in which the present time government under the New Progressive Party (Partido Nuevo Progresista, that attempts to join the Island to the United States trough statehood) tried to and succeeded taking over many institutions that form the base of the democratic government of Puerto Rico, an atmosphere of hostility followed by many reckless actions that threaten public peace had climaxed in violent and aggressive actions of this government against the parties of the opposition, the organized student movement, the labor unions, the press, the environment, as against every area and institution of Puerto Rico’s civil society.

This constitutional coup springs from the Legislative branch of the government under the command of Senator Thomas Rivera Schatz, endorsed by the central government, under the dominance of the Secretary Governor, counselor Marcos Rodríguez Ema, with the obvious intent of having under their grasp and without opposition full control of every agency and organization that rule the judiciary, academic, economic and civil societies. Before this scenario, Governor Luis Fortuño operates without volition, has no opinion, appearance nor public responsibility.

With the complete control of the High Court of Puerto Rico, the University of Puerto Rico Board of trustees, and the alleged control of the news media, among many others, the genuine participation of the People of Puerto Rico in all democratic processes protected by our Constitution is jeopardized.

The events started (trough the rush approval of Law 7 by the Legislature) with more than 20,000 public employee lay-offs, with the allegation that this would alleviate the gigantism of the government and would find the solution of the serious public deficit, that has never been properly evidenced. This decision has caused economical chaos, public services are worse than ever and it has generated despair and gloominess in every Puertorrican family. In this same guise there exists a serious persecution against all artistic institutions of the country, strangling their budgets, trying with this actions to avoid the propagation of art as dissidence. This, while the government favors contracts of obscene sums with hundreds of advisors, contractors and lobbyists associated with their own political party.

The attacks continued in the form of the appointment to the High Court of four Judges with a well known affiliation with, and militancy for the governing political party, achieving a majority of votes in favor of the actual government on all decisions made in this Forum, on individual basis. The government went on repressing and eliminating student participation on the procedures of the State University, suppressing tuition exemption rights for outstanding athletes and artists, among others; forcing the students from all eleven campuses of the University of Puerto Rico to declare a strike that lasted 60 days, generating ample support from the people of Puerto Rico and around the world.

The students on strike were successful on their achieving their demands trough negotiations that involved a First Instance Court and an appointed negotiator; however, these accords were are trying to be invalidated by Secretary of government Rodríguez Ema who said that these accords “are not worth the paper in which they were written”

This event preceded the Central government’s action of proposing a hasty law, that was signed with no revision within hours, adding four additional members to the Board of trustees of the University of Puerto Rico. These additions to the Board are unconditional members of the governing political party The students of the State university, who on a great majority depend in Federal grants, now face an annual recurring fee of $800.00, fee they will not be able to pay and that they will not pay, forcing the students to return to their strike. With this strategy, the Central government risk the accreditation of the State University and as a consequence, the government would be able to privatize it’s assets.

Following this same direction, the government of Puerto Rico will attempt to sell and to divide for speculation a strip of land where stands the Karst formation, on the northwest of the Island. This area collects one third of our water supplies for the entire population; nonetheless, the government intends to put this area into private hands that would build a toll expressway over this zone that is rich ecologically and economically.

Passing up many other events, the budget of Puerto Rico was approved, together with countless laws which favor privatization, the dissolving of professional associations and the distribution of public funds into private hands, without the pertaining and compulsory hearings of public participation, reaching the extreme of turning off the microphones of the opposing political party members, in a despotic fashion.

The events climaxed last week when the FBI in Puerto Rico arrested Senator Héctor Martínez, NPP, on charges of bribe, the selling of influences and other charges. Martinez is Senator’s Rivera Schatz right hand on the Senate. A public squabble reached the news between the Senator and the FBI, with the Seantor fending the alleged innocence of Senator Martínez,, who has been directly associated with drug traffic and who was filmed while committing bribery.

Then, last in his many violent and reckless acts, the president of the Senate, Rivera Schatz, using force and a real padlock, censored the access of the cameras and the news media to the Senate sessions, depriving the People of Puerto Rico of direct information about the discussions and voting sessions that were taking place about this year’s budget and other matter). The events resulted in verbal and physical violence between senators, rising indignation between the people to a point of and almost unsustainable state of outrage and wrath.

Counselor Rivera Schatz has taken virtual control of the country with his tyrannical and fascist ways; and it cannot be discarded that from these same seats, this same week, acts of persecution and acts of violence will be started against other sectors of the People, all approved by the Secretary Governor of Puerto Rico.

This factual deed of control of the political power from within the Puertorrican Nation violates all elementary principles of democracy and of participation of the People in the government, for which we proclaim to the World the actual situation of contained violence that exists in our People and that is about to explode against these two politicians that had taken by assault the power in our Country. Even though in Puerto Rico there are no conditions for an armed struggle of the People because of the obvious disparity of the opposing sides, a revolution of cultural and of student affirmation is starting to take the streets and to retrieve the spaces stolen away by the originators of this coup.

We exhort all communications media of the World to divulge and expose the current situation of the Puertorrican Nation and we ask of you, therefore, your total solidarity.

¿Donde estabas cuando ocurrio el temblor?

Esta es la pregunta "de rigeur" aquí en Puerto Rico en esta mañana. Cientos de miles de Puertorriqueños se despertaron esta madrugada, al sentir el fuerte sismo, y muchos salieron a la calle. El sismo registro unos 5.7 grados en la escala Mercalli a eso de la 1:16 minutos de la madrugada de hoy Domingo.

Harold J. Irizarry Muñoz, analista de datos geofísicos de la Red Sísmica de Puerto Rico, informó a Primera Hora que el terremoto se reportó en la latitud 18.4, longitud 67.4 oeste, con epicentro a 3.9 kilómetros al suroeste de Isabela, entre Moca y Añasco. Tuvo una profundidad de 140 kilómetros.

Hasta las 4 de la madrugada se habían reportado 22 réplicas de magnitud mínima, señaló Irizarry Muñoz. A esa hora la Red Sísmica había recibido más de 3,500 reportes de personas que sintieron el sismo.

El sismo sucedió en la falla del noroeste de Puerto Rico y no en la falla del Cañón de la Mona, donde ocurrió el terremoto de 7.4 en 1918, recordó Gisela Báez, geóloga de la Red Sísmica de Puerto Rico, en entrevista con la emisora WKAQ.

Se recibió un informe sobre una residencia en Lares donde hay una persona encamada y debido a que en la misma una columna cedió aproximadamente 4 pulgadas de la base, la persona fue removida como medida de precaución", dijo el director ejecutivo de la Agencia Estatal para el Manejo de Emergencias y Administración de Desastres (AEMEAD), Heriberto Saurí.

Las subestaciones de la Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica en Aguadilla, Arecibo y Yauco no están funcionando, indicó la emisora radial WKAQ 580.

En Añasco los vecinos se levantaron con el fuerte movimiento de la tierra. Una residente del barrio Humatas dijo que se escuchó un ruido que salía de las entrañas de la Tierra. En Aguadilla el sismo también se sintió muy fuerte.

Se escuchó en la radio a personas de varios puntos de la Isla, como Aguas Buenas, Carolina, Ponce, San Germán, Barranquitas, Naranjito, Toa Baja y Orocovis llamando para comentar que sintieron un fuerte temblor.

Y ustedes, ¿Que sintieron? A mi me levanto de un buen sueño sobre robots gigantes. En serio.

Police received threats before refinery explosion.

According to the Primera Hora newspaper, auxiliary police commisioner José Rosa Carrasquillo acknowledged in a radio interview this morning that the police department had received information that one or more fuel refineries in Puerto Rico will be the targets of sabotage. According to Rosa Carrasquillo, patrols were doubled in the last two weeks to try and curtail the situation.

These declarations clear the way for a criminal investigation of this sad matter.

A comment on the situation in Puerto Rico...

As we have been entertaining you with this blog, things in Puerto Rico has gone from worse to worse. Apart from one of the worse murder rates in 16 years, a very high unemployment figure, made worse by the mass firings of over 16,000 public employees.

All of these things are happening and then our brand new Secretary of Goverment Marcos Rodríguez Ema goes on the radio and said that the protesters and their leaders are Terrorists.

Terrorists?

Who fired more than 16,000 employees, destroying the careers and peace of thousands of Puerto Ricans?

Who has insulted the dignity of our people, over and over again?

Who wants to privatize all of the public services, making more expensive our public works?

Who?

And they dare to call peaceful protesters terrorists, dangling the fascist "Patriot Act" over the head of law abiding citizens.

The only terrorists here are called the Government of Puerto Rico, trying to suppress the right of people to protest unfair practices and gained rights.
By using threats and intimidations, you're only succeding in looking weak and afraid.
By firing honest men and women from their employment, you have engendered terror in the minds of Puertorricans. That's what a real terrorist does!

Remember Mr. Fortuño, we are your bosses. We pay your salary with our taxes. You are a temporary employee at best.

Be greatful that you live in a country where people don't take things as seriously as they should. If it wasn't the case, you would have been tarred and feathered...or worse!

Give thanks to whatever god you belive in, that we are only going to protest in peace your abuses.

There's still time to open dialog and to talk this thru. Peace is still at a cheap price, as the character Quark said in the Star Trek series "Deep Space Nine". Afterwards the price for peace might be measured in pints or gallons of blood.

It's a dangerous road we are driving. Hope we don't crash and burn!

Friday...It's the second annual Get Fired Day!!!

Yes! Our bright governor, Luis Fortuño, is gearing up for a second round of firings of public employees. Probably between 10 to 20 thousand (that's right, thousands!)of employees will be fired today! The economist advising Mr. Fortuño think that by massive lay-offs, the economy will improve. Huh? What kind of logic is that? More unemployed means more houses being foreclosed, more morosity and late payments, more defaults, more crime.

Yet, goverment contracts to so called advisors keep getting fatter. Is expected that 2 Billion dollars would have been spent in these contracts by the end of the fiscal year. (Check Primerahora.com for more details!)

But are the contracts being annulled?

NO

But hard working Men and Women are getting laid off.

This is WRONG!

This is no goverment, this is a DICTATORSHIP!!!!

From now on, this blog will refer to Fortuño as Herr Luis Fortuño, overseer of the slave colony of Puerto Pobre (We are not Rich anymore!). But not as Fuhrer (Leader)

This photo says it all!

It was taken at noon today. It shows the body of a woman found near a buoy at Santa Cecilia Street in Ocean Park in San Juan. The woman, unidentified as of yet, apparently drowned. No signs of violence were found in her body.

But that's not the story. The story is the reaction of the people near the body of this woman.

Nobody reacts or cares.

NOBODY.

No empathy for the demise of another human being.

Are these the new puertorrican generation?

Is this what we are becoming?

One of the girls is nonchalantly speaking on her phone. Perhaps telling somebody about the near excitement of having a dead body so near?

The guy sitting on the chair, could not care less. See no evil, care no evil.

And the cops have not cordoned off the scene? This a potential crime scene!

WTF!!!!!!!

The Panty Thief caught!

Even in this convoluted world, life in the Bermejales area of Orocovis is quiet.

That is until the Panty thief struck!

According to Lt. Candido Pagán, spokesperson for the Police, a 29 year old mother and wife had 83 of her panties stolen from her clotheslines in the last weeks. A sting operation was assembled and luckily the culprit was caught.

Luis Serrano Nogueras, 38, a neighbor of the victim was responsible for the theft. A single man living with his family, Serrano had a crush with his neighbor, and that's why he acted in such a bizarre fashion. He being held on a $20,000. bond on Bayamon's penitentary, pending more charges.

Weird!

Hey...It's Friday! have you received your pink slip yet?

For people who follow this blog in Puerto Rico, they know what I'm talking about. For those who don't, a little recap is in order.

In the 2008 campaign for Colonial overseer...I mean, Governor of PR., Luis Fortuño promised that if elected, only one man would have lost his job in PR's horrible economic climate, that of former Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila. After winning the elections and becoming Governor, Fortuño, following the advice of the real power here, the rich, decided that the most easy place to balance the over-bloated budget was to fire up to 30,000 public employees. The first 10,000 will get their walking papers today, begining what probabaly will be a further unstabilizing of the unraveling fabric of our society, already frayed by drug violence, apathy and high unemployment.

Meanwhile, the contracts for lobbyists, advisors, lawyers and representatives, not only do they continue but got even higher and fatter. Some goverment executives even got higher bonuses and salaries, while those fired have to invent something, in this bleak future our "leaders" have dreamed for us, a future in which the privileged ride on the back of the poor and downtrodden, feeding them scraps while we work for them as slaves.

And what are the people planinning to do? What are you planning to do? And me? I will continue to spread the word and spreak out against these and other abuses. I will protest and I will shout from the top of my lungs until my voice is hoarse. I hope the tolerance level of the people here in PR is reaching it's limit. Silence, in this and other matters is tartamount to complicity. Speak out, or else, it will be too late!

Protest now! If you wait until later, you probably won't have the liberty to do so.

Little heavy and serious tone for a Friday. Yes, I know. But this is serious. Levity will have to wait for a while.

Miguelángel Suarez 1939-2009

I just recived word that actor and friend Miguelángel Suarez, passed away today at Metropolitan Hospital from complications stemming by his condition from cancer of the esophagus. He was 69 years old.

Suarez and his sister were born into a middle class family and raised in the Santurce section of San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father worked at a local supermarket] and his mother was a housewife. Once, when Suarez was only a child, he went with his mother to see a play. This was his first experience with the theater. Suarez was so impressed, after the curtains rose and the actors did their show, that he knew that he wanted to become an actor.

Suarez went to school and received his primary and secondary education in his hometown. When Suarez and his sister returned from school, their mother would either read stories or prepare little plays which helped to develop their imagination.

The supermarket, where the elder Suarez worked at was located next to the radio station "Radio El Mundo". Manuel Méndez Ballester, a well known playwright, who worked as a writer for the radio station, would frequently visit the supermarket. Suarez's father, soon became friends with Ballester. One day, in 1947, Ballester told the elder Saurez that he was in need of an 8-year-old for the protagonist role in a play that he wrote, because the person he had in mind didn't pass the audition. When the elder Suarez realized that the "part" paid more than what he was making working in the supermarket, he took Suarez to the audition the next day and that was the beginning of Suarez's acting career.

In 1956, when Suarez was 17 years old, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the submarine division. He traveled the world and learned about different customs and cultures.

When Suarez was discharged from the Navy, he returned to Puerto Rico but found that the artistic class in the island was going through a crisis. Since he was unable to get an acting job, Suarez decided to try his luck elsewhere. He went to Argentina where he landed a role in the soap opera Amor Gitano (Gypsy Love). He later went to Venezuela where he became a renowned actor after participating in the soap operas Corazon de Diamante (Heart of Diamonds) and Laura Benson. In Puerto Rico he participated in many locally produced soap operas, among which was Vivir Para Ti (I live for You). In 1994 he was cast in Señora Tentacion (Mrs. Temptation) with Mexican movie star Lucía Méndez. This soap opera was a "hit" in the Caribbean, Central and South America and in Europe.

In 1971, Suarez was cast in the locally produced Woody Allen movie Bananas with Jacobo Morales. He then went to Hollywood and in 1981 landed a role in the movie Stir Crazy, directed by Sidney Poitier starring Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder.

Among the other movies in which Suarez has participated in are: La Gran Fiesta (1985); Isabel la Negra (1990) with Míriam Colón and Raúl Juliá; Havana (1990) produced by Sidney Pollack and Under Suspicion (2000) with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Nydia Caro.

In 2007, Suárez performed one of the main roles in Jacobo Morales' new film, Ángel.

His final movie role came in 2008, when he played opposite Benicio Del Toro in Steven Sodenberg's "Che".

Miguelángel was an estmeed coleague, a pro-independence proponent, and a great actor. He will be sorely missed by all. His actions will echo in eternity.

Kaisen 5, A total blowout!

The Kaisen entertaiment fair, in it's fifth edition, blew out all expectations. More that 2,500 persons descended on the Rubén Rodríguez Colisseum in Bayamón for the bi-annual anime, sci-fi and comics extravaganza. Congratulations to the organizers, crew and people who attended. It was an affair to remember!

Awilda Carbia 1938-2009

The Dame of Puertorrican comedy, Awilda Carbia, passed away today. She was 71.

Awilda started her acting career as a 7-year-old child, without ever suspecting that later in her acting career, 1970s, she would portray a children's television show host that was called: Estrella Galaxia, (Galaxy Star), broadcast by WAPA-TV. Later, she abandoned the show, and her daughter, Puerto Rican television host, Mirayda Chávez, took over, and characterized "Estrellita Galaxia", (Little Galaxy Star).

During the 1960s, Carbia, performed as a comedian in several television shows, such as: Rendezvous Nocturno, produced by the late Cuban television producer: Tony Chiroldes, and El Show del Mediodía, (The Mid-day Show), produced by the Puerto Rican producer, Tommy Muñiz. Later, she became part of the cast of television sitcoms in WAPA-TV in Puerto Rico, such as: Ja, ja, ji, ji, jo, jo, (Ha, ha, he, he, ho, ho), with the late Puerto Rican comedian José Miguel Agrelot, "Don Cholito", to whom the new Puerto Rican Coliseum, in Hato Rey, has recently been named after him.

In 1971, making a short turnabout in her career as a comedian, Carbia became the leading lady of the telenovela broadcast by WAPA-TV El Silencio Nos Condena, (Silence Condemns Us), opposite Cuban leading man Eliseo Pereira. As the 1970s came about, there was an actors' strike in WAPA-TV, and the whole cast of comedians of Tommy Muñiz Productions, to which Awilda used to belong, created a new company, called "ASTRA". Together, they produced a different television comedy series called Ahí Va Eso, (There it Goes), this time telecast by Rikavision, channel 7, then WRIK-TV.
Later, Awilda, moved to Telemundo, and became the leading lady of her own television show inside the legendary music and comedy series that aired for 40 consecutive years, El Show de las 12, (The 12 o'clock show). She was also featured in two comedy series: La Encubierta Descubierta, (The Discovered Cover Up) and Awilda lo Divierte, (Awilda Entertains You), as well as being a member of the comedy cast for El Show de Chucho, (Chucho's Show). The latter was the #1 television show for many years.
Later, when Chucho Avellanet abandoned the show, Awilda Carbia, alongside Otilio Warrington, (Bizcocho) and Juan Manuel Lebrón, took over the show, and from being the stars of the comedy cast, they became the stars of the show, then called Estudio Alegre, (Cheerful Studio) and later, Musicomedia, (Musicomedy). She also starred, opposite Juan Manuel Lebrón, Benito Mateo and Rosita Velázquez in the hit Sunday prime-time TV sitcom, En Casa de Juanma y Wiwi (At Juanma and Wiwi's House). She also starred in the celebrated Puerto Rican Spanish-language production of the musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, titled 40 Kilates (40 Karats).
Awilda Carbia, starred in a new concept series of a one woman comedy act, titled Desconcierto. (Desconcierto, in the Spanish language is literally the antonym of the word: "Concert"). She impersonated Puerto Rican celebrities such as Myrta Silva, Carmita Jiménez, Lucecita Benítez, Yolandita Monge, & Nydia Caro, among many others. Carbia's series of "Desconciertos", made their debut at the Tapia Theater in San Juan, and were performed in various theaters and night clubs of Puerto Rico such as: Caribe Hilton Hotel, the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré in Santurce and, most notably, 105 performances at the legendary Tapia Theater in Old San Juan. Desconcierto kept running on stage for 15 consecutive years, in two-month seasons.
Then, in the late 1980s, Awilda Carbia, signed an exclusivity contract with WQII-TV, TeleOnce, and she produced her own weekly comedy series: Soy Awilda, (I'm Awilda). It aired for three consecutive years.
Later, Carbia, accepted an offer from the late actress and producer: Lucy Boscana, to perform opposite her, in a dramatic television mini-series, in a leading role. It was filmed between Argentina & Puerto Rico, and it's titled: Cita en Buenos Aires, (A Date in Buenos Aires).

On-Stage, she's performed the leading lady in many "Zarzuelas' (Spanish operettas), comedies and musicals. She starred as Miss Adelaide in the 1991 Puerto Rican revival of Guys & Dolls, opposite Ivan Rodríguez as Nathan Detroit, Osvaldo Ríos as Sky Masterson, and Cristina Arzuaga as Sarah Brown. The English-language production played at the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center in San Juan. Carbia also joined her daughter Myraida Chavez in an original theater production staged throughout various locations around the island called, Dos Mujeres de mi Tierra {Two Women of my Land), acknowledging the poetry of Julia de Burgos, and the music of Sylvia Rexach.
In 1998, she performed the multiple leading roles of the Puerto Rican comedy play Lo Mejor está por Venir, (The Best is yet to Come) where she portrayed three different women characters.
Al derecho y al revés, (Upright and the other way round), Salvemos los delfines, (Save the dolphins), Cosas de papi y mami, (Daddy & Mommy's things), Teatruras de gala, (Gala Ball of theater belongings), Morisquetas, (Grimaces) & Nacionalmente correcta (Nationally correct) were among the theater productions Carbia performed as the leading lady.
In 1999, she returned to television, through Telemundo, Channel 2, starring in a new sit-com called Los Seijo Díaz, (The Seijo Diaz family), again opposite Juan Manuel Lebrón. It aired through 2003.

In 2005, she performed one of the leading roles, in the Puerto Rican film El Sueño del Regreso, (The Dream of a Come Back) produced and directed by the Puerto Rican film director Luis Molina Casanova. Also, she performed on stage, as a serious actress, portraying Helen Keller, in a drama stage production at the Raúl Juliá Theater, in Santurce.
Then, in 2007, she starred in the Puerto Rican musical Fuego a la Lata, (Fire Blast) at the Angel O. Berríos Performing Arts Center in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
Carbia served in her last days as the guest comedy star of the daily television talk show Contigo, (With you) broadcast by Tu Universo Television, WIPR-TV, channel 6, where the leading host is her daughter "Myraida Chavez". In addition to her guest appearances, she hosted her own daily talk show on radio station 940-AM.
On October 28, 2008 she was honored by San Juan, Puerto Rico Mayor Jorge Santini during the gala held to reopen the Tapia Theater in Old San Juan, which included a star-studded concert with Danny Rivera, Chucho Avellanet, Andy Montañez and Jackie Capó, the daughter of Bobby Capó. Carbia, who was ill, was accompanied by all her children, as well as other celebrities, such as astrologer Walter Mercado[1]. The next day, Santini honored her by dedicating the "Awilda Carbia Theater Café".

She passed away from Pneumonia at Ashford Presbyterian Hospital this afternoon.

She was a good friend to my family and I used to date Myraida in college. This is really a sad loss.
