LIMA (Reuters) - Peruvian police said on Thursday they had broken up a gang that allegedly killed dozens of people and sold their fat to buyers who used it to make cosmetics.

Four Peruvians were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, murder and trafficking in human fat.

The group stored the fat it collected in used soda and water bottles, which police showed reporters.

"We have people detained who have declared and stated how they murdered people with the aim being to extract their fat in rudimentary labs and sell it," said Police Commander Angel Toldeo.

In addition to those taken into custody, police said they were searching for others who bought fat from the gang or might have worked with it.

Remains from some of the victims were found at a rural house in the region of Huanuco where the group worked, according police video.

Police said they were investigating 60 disappearances in the area that might be linked to the gang.

The investigation started this month after police heard about a shipment of fat that arrived in Lima by bus from Peru's mountains.

Lotto hoax causes a riot in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A woman being driven around in a rented limousine pulled up at a coat store and announced she'd won the lottery and would pay for everyone's purchases, police said, but she ended up causing a riot when customers realized it was a hoax.

Angry customers threw merchandise around and looted, leaving the store looking as though a hurricane had passed through it, police said.

Linda Brown was arrested Tuesday after an hours-long shopping spree that began when she hired a stretch Hummer limousine to drop her off at a Burlington Coat Factory store, police Sgt. Lt. Michael Deakins said. Brown walked to a cash register and loudly announced she had won the lottery and would pay for each person's merchandise up to $500, he said.

“Well, of course, people like to hear that,” Deakins said. “Apparently they were in line calling relatives who were not at the store and told them to come.”

People flooded the registers as cashiers began ringing up purchase after purchase, but Brown had not yet paid the bill, Deakins said. At least 500 people filled the aisles and another 1,000 were outside trying to get in, he said.

“She was telling people she won $1.5 million,” Deakins said. “But it ends up she didn't win anything. She had no money to pay for anything.”

About an hour later, Brown had the limousine driver take her to a bank to withdraw money, but she returned empty-handed, police Detective Steven Nace said. By then, store employees had called in two dozen police officers to handle the crowds.

Shopper Candace Jordan said she told Brown she didn't need clothes, she needed help paying her rent.

“And she said, 'How much is it?'” Jordan told WBNS-TV. “And she promptly wrote out a check.”

By the time employees realized Brown didn't have any cash to pay, police said, she already had taken off in the limo.

That's when angry customers, realizing they weren't getting free coats, began throwing merchandise on the floor and grabbing clothes without paying for them, Nace said.

Governor Furtuño uses a citizen as an example of sacrifice in this economic climate...who happens to be a convicted and registered sex offender!

Luis Fortuño has not started well his administration.

While in the midst of a recession in the States, President Obama's star continues to rise, due to his swift action in the economic front, here Governor Fortuño continues to stumble and fall. First because of his group of advisers in the economic front told him to raise taxes to the poor, now because of this.

Yesterday in a taped message to the people of Puerto Rico, Fortuño outlined his strategy to get the island out of the economic funk we are in. In between the bad news of more sin taxes and massive goverment layoffs (As much as 30,000 jobs, by some estimates), the Governor cited the example of one Agustin Torres Castellar, that sent a letter to the secretary of the local revenue service with a ten dollar bill, saying that if every working class citizen gave ten dollars a month, we could be out of this crisis fast. The Governor lauded this citizen, saying that his example should be "An inspiration to us all. Something to emulate".

What he didn't know was that Agustin is a convicted child molester, this stemming from a 1999 kidnapping case in which he took a 12 year old girl from the school he was working in as a teacher and fled with her to Texas, where he was arrested by the FBI and extradited to PR. He was given a two year sentence after he plead guity to the statuory rape charge. He was released in 2001 and he is now a registered sex offender with the local police and FBI.

Doctor jailed for taking a 50 cent bribe, 24 years ago!

PATNA, India (Reuters) - An Indian court sentenced a 75-year-old doctor to jail for accepting half a dollar as a bribe nearly a quarter of a century ago, officials said Wednesday.

India's federal police caught Balgovind Prasad accepting 25 rupees (51 cents) from a sweeper in 1985 for issuing a fake medical certificate, police said.

The case dragged on for years and Prasad was convicted in 1992 and given a one-year jail term. He was freed as he appealed the sentence.

Tuesday, a higher court in India's eastern state of Bihar state reduced the one-year term to three months, saying the bribe amount was too small, but directed the police to take Prasad into custody as he was guilty of the crime.

"The case was also dragging and the bribe money was too small, so Prasad thought he would get a reprieve from the court," prosecution lawyer Vipin Kumar Sinha told reporters after the verdict. "But all the charges has been proved against him."

Indian justice is often delivered at a glacial pace and a case can drag for decades with endless hearings.

Man kills infants and adults in Belgium, painted as the "Joker"

DENDERMONDE, Belgium (Reuters) – Prosecutors charged a 20-year-old unemployed Belgian with murdering two babies and a woman and wounding 13 others in a frenzied knife attack at a creche that stunned Belgium.
Prosecutor Christian Du Four, at a news conference on Saturday, identified the man only as "Kim D," who lived alone some 30 km (20 miles) from the scene of Friday's attack in the town of Dendermonde.
The man had no previous criminal record. When arrested he was carrying a knife, a small axe, a fake pistol and was wearing body armor. Two more knives were found at the scene.
"We don't know about his motive. He doesn't say anything ... he's very passive," said Du Four, adding that the suspect would appear in court on Tuesday.
Local media dubbed the assailant the "Joker" killer because his face was painted white and his eyes blackened, like the criminal mastermind in the Batman films.
He arrived at the Fabeltjesland -- Fairytale Land -- creche in Dendermonde, 30 km (20 miles) west of Brussels in mid-morning on Friday saying he wanted to ask a question.
But he then ran into the creche's rooms and launched his attacks, slashing at victims with a knife, before cycling off. He was detained a short time later at a shop.
There were 18 infants aged up to three years and six adults in the creche. Those killed were aged six and nine months and a woman child minder, aged 54. Some of the wounded children would require plastic surgery, hospital staff said.
Belgium was in shock. De Morgen newspaper bore the headline "Cold, Bloodthirsty, Inhuman," while the Gazet Van Antwerpen simply asked "Why?."

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio — A Tri-State woman is in critical condition Wednesday after police say her husband shot her while they were having sex.

Timothy Havens, 38, told Springfield police he was reaching for something on the nightstand when the pistol went off, hitting his estranged wife Carolyn in the upper chest.

Carolyn Havens, 42, is being treated at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.

This is isn't the first time there's been trouble for the Havens. Court documents showed Timothy served 60 days in jail for assaulting his wife and was ordered to go to anger management classes.

His arrest Tuesday for the weekend shooting was for violating a civil protection order that Carolyn had taken out against him earlier this year.

Bond was set at $75,000 after prosecutors asked for a high bond, "due to alleged prohibited contact between the parties (and) the suspicious nature of the circumstances surrounding (her injury)."

BEIJING (Reuters) - A police chief in a remote county of southwestern China has taken down 48 of his relatives, including brothers, cousins and a number of his wife's family, for various crimes, local media said on Tuesday.

Laobulaluo, a police chief in Heizhugou township, Sichuan province, had seen 25 relatives either jailed, sent for "re-education through labor," or punished in other ways, according to a report posted on state news portal Chinanews.com ( www.chinanews.com.cn ).

The police chief, who is in his 30s, is a member of China's Yi ethnic minority. Over a 10-year career, He had personally arrested a brother and two cousins after finding they had beaten local teachers at a primary school while drunk.

Other family members were arrested after stealing a woman's handbag.

The policeman's sense of duty had inflamed his relatives, some of whom had taken turns threatening his parents, and had "even secretly cut off the tails and slashed the legs of their cows," the report said.

"In the first few years, I did not dare head back to my hometown to pass the New Year holiday, but now it's all right. Everyone understands and supports what I was doing at the time," the report quoted him as saying.

In a very strange case of stupidity and a couple of drinks, two men who were rooting for candidate Anibal Acevedo Vilá of the PDP to win, decided that they wanted to commit their own version of "seppuku", a Japanese ritualized form of suicide to save face and honor, rather than live in a world ruled by Luis Fortuño and his NPP minions.

The incident happened on a rural town in Aguada, in the western part of PR, as Modesto Jiménez Acevedo, 61 and his nephew Josué Cabrera Jiménez, 26 watched as the PDP leader concede defeat, they decided that death was a more preferable alternative than living with the people they detested. They armed themselves with a kitchen knife and Modesto knifed himself in the stomach. When Josué saw this, he interjected "That's not the way to do it!" and proceded to wound himself in the stomach several times.

Family members learned of the plight of these fanatics when their pleas for help were heard, as they realized that their little stunt might actually kill them. Both were taken to a local hospital, and were interned in stable condition. Police is investigating this strange case, but is doubtful that any charges will be filed.

SUMTER, S.C. – A 12-year-old boy was shot to death through a front door while trick-or-treating with his family, shocking residents of a South Carolina neighborhood where most people know each other well.

"I just hate it that that little kid got killed. It used to be the quietest place. I knew everybody and everybody knew me," Vivian Johnson, 81, said Saturday.

She has lived for decades two doors from the house where the boy was killed and his father and brother injured Friday night, but she said she does not know the people who live there now.

Police offered no motive and said it did not appear the family knew the people in the house, which is off a busy, two-lane road in Sumter, a city of about 40,000 people 45 miles east of Columbia. On Saturday, shattered glass still covered the front stoop and about 20 bullet holes peppered the front door and a front-window casement.

A 22-year-old man was charged with murder but it wasn't clear how — or if — he was connected to the family.

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is guilty of abuse of power, according to a probe by the state legislature.

The Republican vice-presidential candidate was accused of sacking a senior state official, Walter Monegan, in connection with a family feud.

But the McCain-Palin campaign team said that the report showed Mrs Palin acted within "proper and lawful authority".

The report could have a significant effect on Republican hopes of winning next month's US presidential election.

Mrs Palin has always denied any wrongdoing, and her supporters say the charges are motivated by her political opponents.

She stood accused of dismissing Mr Monegan for refusing to sack a state trooper who was in a bitter custody battle with her sister.

The report concluded a family grudge was not the sole reason for the dismissal, but was a likely contributing factor.

(Middletown, OH) -- Saturday night, people in the 3100 block of Wilbraham Road called police to report a woman wearing a cow costume was chasing kids, and blocking traffic. Michele Allen also allegedly urinated on the porch of one neighbor.
When officers arrived, they told her to go home. But later that night, they found her again, in the 2400 block of Verity, standing in traffic. This time, officers say, Allen smelled of alcohol and swore at them.
She was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.
Allen plead guilty, Monday morning, in Middletown Municipal Court, and sentenced to a month in jail.

And she showed up to the sentencing dressed in the outfit!

She has guts...

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazilian authorities detained a Portuguese man at Sao Paulo's international airport with 200 birds in his bag, police said on Thursday.

Customs officials found 65 of 200 Canary birds dead, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement. Police will charge the man, who arrived from Peru and resides in Brazil, with animal trafficking, a federal police officer at the airport said.

The remaining live birds will be sent back to Peru by plane, in more humane conditions.

Consider this example; yesterday a 23 year old woman and her 6 and 4 year old kids were detained when they were going to visit the woman's brother at the Bayamón Penitentiary.

After a brief search, it turns out that the 6 year old was carrying a deflated birthday balloon that had two packages containing heroin and marijuana.

The minor revealed that the balloon was given by a family neighbor, a woman he identified as "Eva".

No charges were filed against the mother. However, the kids were under Family Services custody.

Another family destroyed by an adult being stupid!

The FBI creates mixed feelings in me. One is of revulsion and hate at their heavy hand in the case of Filiberto Ojeda Rios, killed three years ago in a raid. But sometimes, when they hit the real crooks, politicians, I always smile. It reminds me that there is justice after all!

Jorge De Castro Font, senator of the New Progressive Party is such a guy. This jerk'o has been an outspoken critic of everything. Aligning himself with the recalcitrant, extreme religious right, he has come out against gay and straight sentimental unions, advocating the now dead "proposition 99", that would have outlawed such unions and put marriage between a man and a woman as a constitutional right.

He also aligned himself with the rich and powerful, taking their side on the Paseo Caribe controversy, even going as far as getting there in person to assault them verbally.

Well, this 'nice' guy is being investigated by the FBI for a money laundering scheme, he had his house, a gas station he allegedly owns and his senate office raided by agents. His "Fuhrer" in the NPP, Luis Fortuño has asked for him to step down from the party. He said no! Perfect Jerk!

I can't wait to see him in handcuffs!

The lady's name was Dinorah Rodríguez López, 39, from Carolina. 15 days ago she was accused of theft and booked normally. Released on bail, she was picked up yesterday on new charges of identity theft. Her bail was revoked and was informed that she will have to spend the night in jail before facing the judge. While on court, feigning illness, she excused herself to the bathroom, where she ingested a large amount of the drug Percocet.

When she didn't come back from the bathroom, court marshals went in, found her unconscious, and instead if taking her to the hospital, she was taken to the police station where she was booked while she was dying!

Seeing that her condition was getting worse, she was taken to the public hospital at Puerto Nuevo, where she died.

WTF!!!!!

What the hell is wrong with the people in this place!!!!!

Whatever she did, she didn't deserve to die like that!!!!

In Wichita, Kansas, it looks that even burglars like to wear clean clothes.

A man broke into a house Friday night to wash his clothes, but was discovered and ran away in his underwear, leaving his jeans and t-shirt behind. A spokesperson from the
Wichita police department confirmed the information.

The woman who lives in the house arrived to find her basement washroom in disarray, went upstairs to inform of this to her husband.
That's when a man, wearing only blue briefs appeared from a hiding place in the washroom, grabbed the startled woman's purse and ran away!

Sergeant Diane Varnell, of the WPD, said that the woman gave pursuit, reached the man and got her purse back. But the burglar escaped and he's still on the loose.

Varnell said that probably the man needed to wash his clothes.

He still doesn't beat the weirdest case of clothing theft in PR history; "El Chupa Panties", or "The Panty Sucker". A guy in Gurabo that loved to steal panties from clotheslines in order to make soup from them and you know...suck on them. For real! Scout's honor!!!

Russia invaded the nation of Georgia yesterday, attacking their capital of Tbilisi with their air force and army. All of this because of the breakaway territory of South Ossetia, and defending their troops staying there.

President Bush called for Russia to pull out of Georgia and to respect it's sovereignty. Right...like HE did on Iraq.



The Olympics started underway in Beijing, China. 15,000 dancers and actors participated...nice but...BORING!!!!

But...

An American tourist has been killed in Beijing in what appears to have been a random attack in the center of the city.

A Chinese man pounced on two US citizens and their Chinese guide as they visited the Drum Tower monument in downtown Beijing today.

One of the US tourists was killed. The second tourist and the Chinese guide, both women, were injured.

The attacker, Tang Yongming, 47, of the eastern city of Hangzhou, then killed himself by jumping off the second story of the monument.

It comes just a day after the opening of the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Drum Tower, a major tourist site in central Beijing, has been sealed off and uniformed police are standing guard.

Murder and sports...a fitting tradition.


And late word that comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from pneumonia in Chicago. He was 50 years old. He was well known from movies like "The Kings of Comedy" and the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy of films and "The Bernie Mac Show" on TV.

A very funny man. He will be missed!
