8 ft.Burmese python kills baby in Florida!

Another sample of kids paying for their parents or adult stupidity!

A pet Burmese python measuring more than 8 feet long broke out of a terrarium and strangled a 2-year-old girl in her bedroom Wednesday at a central Florida home, authorities said. Shaiunna Hare was already dead when paramedics arrived at about 10 a.m., Lt. Bobby Caruthers of the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office said.

Charles Jason Darnell, the snake’s owner and the boyfriend of Shaiunna’s mother, discovered the snake missing from its terrarium and went to the girl’s room, where he found it on the girl and bite marks on her head, Caruthers said. Darnell, 32, stabbed the snake until he was able to pry the child away.

Authorities removed the snake from the home Wednesday afternoon after obtaining a search warrant. Once outside the small, tan home, bordered by cow pastures, the snake was placed in a bag then inside a dog crate. The snake was still alive.

Burmese pythons are not native to Florida, but they easily survive in the state and can reach a length of 26 feet and weigh more than 200 pounds.

The Humane Society of the United States said including Wednesday’s death, at least 12 people have been killed in the U.S. by pet pythons since 1980, including five children.

So far no charges have been filed.

The snake was doing what snakes do, But the mother and her brainless boyfriend should be charged!!!

Morons!!!

yeah, the parents probably should've had some sort of precautionary something set up with a snake that size..but it was not the parents fault. its an 8 foot snake, its gonna do stuff like that. Snakes are wild, they go by instinct. when they dont like what's happening with them, they change it.

They brought an 8 foot snake into their house as a pet, with a 5 year old in the house. There have been several kids killed by snakes and the idiot people think it will be different for them.
And you, giannamazing, somehow still think IT WAS NOT THE PARENTS FAULT. That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This little girl paid for it with her life. What more needs to happen to make it their fault?
It's time to start thinking and stop being selfish by bringing in wild animals into homes and endangering children, and pets. Take responsibility for your actions.

Parents need to understand that they're ultimately responsible for their children's welfare in any case. It's tragic something like this had to happen for them to see the danger. Being a python owner, I have locks on all of my cages, babies and adults, because snakes are strong and can break loose. Eight feet of a snake is a lot for even a grown man to deal with alone, let alone a child. The boyfriend should have taken precautions. Don't blame the animal because all animals, dogs, cats, snakes, goldfish, worms, all do what they're made to do. Just like that pitbull that mauled a three day old baby late last year, the dog wad blamed because he was pit and the parents were seen as victims themselves. Parents need to be more responsible for their children and not trust their animals so much.
